Why Flew Powder?
Dream it. Make it. Share it.
When my older brother was diagnosed with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, our world was forever changed. The magic we had come to believe in as children faded away as Cedar faced cancer. Watching him go through treatment was incredibly hard, how he was powerless to this horrible disease. Though throughout the hard, he never gave up. I saw how he found a sense of freedom and identity through his drawings and poetry. Creativity became his escape, a way to process, to express, and to hold on to something that cancer couldn’t take away, giving him back some of the magic he had lost before.
As a musician, I found my own refuge in self-expression with the piano. In the hardest moments, the times I feared I would forever lose my brother, music was my way of making sense of the fear and uncertainty. It was through these experiences that I realized the power in creativity, not just as an outlet, but as a kind of magic that helps us through the unimaginable.
I started Floo Powder to bring that magic to other young people facing cancer. I hope for this to be a a space to create, connect, and to share our stories through art, writing, music, and more. No one should have to go through this alone, and through self-expression I know we can find strength, community, and a little bit of magic along the way.
